Transparency is key in Estate Planning
Updated: 4 days ago
While your trust is a private matter, transparency is key during estate planning!
The process is not quite over when you leave your appointment. It is important to tell those close to you that you have created a trust. Occasionally clients come to our office with the intention to keep their trust completely private, but we recommend being transparent and communicating with your loved ones while you are alive and able.
Your successor trustees, power of attorney agents, and healthcare directive agents should be aware that you have nominated them. Additionally, you may take your newly signed power of attorney documents to your bank, where they can make a copy and keep it in their records; this extra step aids your agent in assisting you immediately in the case of emergency.
It is advisable to let your family and even some trusted close friends know that your trust exists, where to find it, and maybe even some of your intentions ahead of time for a smooth and simple transition and distribution after you pass.
