Trust Among Trustees

Sometimes clients come to our office ready to sign their trust and designate all their assets to their children when they pass, but there's still one more decision to be made: who will be their successor trustee? 

Your successor trustee is a trusted individual you nominate to administer your wishes when you pass and distribute your trust estate among the beneficiaries you have chosen. For many of our clients the easy answer is to assign their adult children as both the successor trustee and beneficiary, but this does not work for everyone; some clients' children are minors, some clients don't have any at all, and some wish to assign a different family member or close friend to the job. Whatever the reason, our office is adamant on one thing: choose someone you trust! This person's responsibility is to fulfill your wishes and act in the best interest of your beneficiaries; they must not waste trust assets, partake in risky investments, or use any assets for their own benefit. Who in your life can you imagine handling the duties of locating your trust binder, gathering your trust assets, and distributing the estate among your beneficiaries?
